The Law of Self Denial
The Law of Self Denial
All what I have stated in the previous posts in this series (Basic Money Principles) rely solidly on this law. The pathway of riches may not be all smooth for you. You will have to learn how to deny yourself. As a student who has the goal of becoming rich while schooling, there are certain purchases that you will have to cancel from your budget. Learn to deny yourself of instant gratification. As at the time I wrote this article, a unit of Tantalizers only costs 85 kobo. So, instead of spending assorted meals at Tantalizers, you should think of buying a thousand units of tantalizers. It will cost you just 850 naira. There are some who spend 1,000 naira on less profitable goodies; but you will have to classify yourself. You do not belong to that group of people. While in the school, you will find many opportunities of lavishing your money, but you should not embrace them. Even if your closest friends are dressed in costly attires that interest you, resist from being them. Your priorities are different. Remember that your goal is to be rich.
Learn to spend your money wisely. Do not spend money because you have it, rather spend it only when there is a pressing need (and not want). Minimize buying the so called appetizers (biscuit, and so on). They are not for you all the time.
I will encourage you to have a daily budget. Know how much you want to spend in a day and make sure you don’t exceed it. Guide your buying decision. Before making any purchase, engage in what I call ‘the millionaire minute’. Just a minute is enough. Ask yourself, what do I need this for? Is it compulsory at the moment? If your answer is negative, please turn away from buying such commodity. You will not be sanctioned for that at least.
