Bowen University bans the use of Blackberry by Students

Still wandering why a University with a poor Digital Center will ban the use of Blackberry by Students. I thought they’re no more strict about the use of Smartphones any more. The truth is that THIS IS A POOR DECISION in this age. I refuse to withdraw my statement until WE get a valid, rational and a “21st Century-centric” reason why a University student should not posses a smartphone in the 21st Century.

Today’s smart devices have several educational apps that students can benefit greatly from. We all know that there’s another Private University that prohibits the use of cell phones. While I do not support this decision too, I must commend the effort of the school board in ensuring that the students are digitally connected. This is no so in the case of Bowen University. I spent four years within the walls of Bowen University. As an incurable digital connector, getting connected FREELY was a daunting task. The Digital Center (Cyber cafe) was just a place where we gather and gist because of the “plug and pray” connection. I can remember clicking on a link and then went out to buy some stuffs at the shopping complex. Believe me, I met it still loading.

Due to this, students now rely heavily on smart devices and modems to get connected to the WWW. So, I wonder how easy it will be for the students to connect with their peers outside via platforms like FB, Twitter and the likes.

Smart devices has helped so many people in different ways. Here’s a link to a post on how iPhone helped someone: [link]

I hope change comes soon to Bowen University.

Am also not in support of their decision, according to them they are trying to maintain Godliness In d in †ђε university. When we resumed first semister 2011/2012 †ђε vice chancellor announced that he knows that every one owns at least two camera phones, 1 with us nd another in our box. He said ‘if we are caught with them they would be seized from us’ meaning u can use them oo, but dnt allow †ђε courtesy officers or whoever to seize them from you. And u know how students are now, some said dat Ahh!! If dey catch them with †ђε camera phone, dey would just put it in their bag or pocket nd said that †ђε person didn’t catch them with it na… And so many other comments! So it was like camera phones were allowed.
Before †ђε sallah break in november there was a case of a girl putting another girl bathing as her display picture(dp) on her ‎ and †ђε v.c, chaplains got to kno about it and dey banned †ђε use of camera phones, all camera phones especially smart phones.
